This month’s cocktail excursion was a no-brainer! We just spent the afternoon with the incredibly friendly people at our new favorite hangout, the super laid back, super authentic, 4 Tacos Locos on Augusta Road in Greenville. Ana and Benito are our new best friends – for good reason. They know a thing or two about REAL Mexican food and, of course, awesome cocktails.
Not polished, but it’s a gem
4 Tacos Locos is tucked away next to a mall near Augusta and Mauldin Roads, so there’s no hassle of downtown traffic or driving circles in a parking lot. It’s not particularly shiny or new on the outside, but you know you’ve found a real gem as soon as you walk through the door! Happy smiling faces, colorful banners and appetizing aromas are the perfect greetings for everyone!

A margarita for every apetito
We had our fair share of margaritas – the Bueno, the no Bueno and the muy no Bueno! But so far we have never had el Mejor de todos – the best ever! Perhaps it should bear the name of one of the owners, Benito. ‘Bueno Benito’ sounds good…just to say.’ Made with a homemade blend, it’s very potent and delicious on its own, and if you’re in the mood for a real fiesta, feel free to add a float. This charming little hole in the wall will surprise you with its selection of premium tequilas, some of which are muy Fuerte. Available in small, medium and ‘better call an Uber’, they satisfy everyone’s thirst level!
We were beyond thrilled and thrilled with this spicy margarita! They were so good we had two. and it rarely happens as we usually share! Served in a jelly pot and sprinkled with fresh jalapeño and fresh cilantro, this is an absolute game changer. It’s suitably spicy at the start, but mellows out at the end. We would run with the bulls for this one! It’s a cocktail you’ll continually crave…we certainly do and fantasize about it as we write! It also balances beautifully with anything on the menu. More on that later.
Since 4 Tacos Locos is open for lunch (which is fine with us as we’ve been there several times before), we have to talk about this south of the border hangover cure that covers all the needs without setting you back. A jar, yes TUB, of homemade Bloody Mary mix is mixed with Cerveza to make the Grand Patron of Bloody Marys. Perfect in case you find yourself overserved the night before – a rookie move, but we all regress sometimes! #cure for a hangover

The happiest happy hours
While ANY is a good time to visit, there’s a nice incentive to come for “Happy Margarita Hour”! Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-7pm, margaritas of all sizes are at super special prices. No matter your size, your temperature and mood will immediately relax!
And while we’re a little more cocktail-focused, 4 Tacos Locos doesn’t disappoint the die-hard beer drinker. They’ve got all the usual suspects in the cooler, cold, and calling your name, but the piece de resistance of this brand of Mexican authenticity is the Corona Familiar – hooray!
Tacos, tacos, tacos and soup…
We can’t say enough about the incredible deliciousness that comes out of this kitchen! The street tacos are epic! While there are more typical tacos for those who want to stick with what they know, our favorites are the pork carnitas, Alhambra (beef) and Mexican sausage, and El Pastor which has a touch of pineapple sweetness.
Another favorite is birria tacos, a slow-cooked short rib that’s pulled and stuffed into tortillas, then served with a side of consommé for dipping. You could eat the consommé on its own, especially with the chopped onion, cilantro and a squeeze of lime. One of us orders it every time!
The sopa de pollo is the tastiest ever, the salads are made with the freshest ingredients, and the guacamole casero is beyond your wildest imagination – we’re not exaggerating! The big eaters in our lives feast on burritos, fajitas and enchiladas.
Ana is excellent at helping customers navigate the wealth of menu choices and making sure everyone is full and happy. Her and Benito make the whole experience one you want to repeat over and over again. Muchas gracias for a truly authentic Mexican experience!
Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Ana and Benito are ready and waiting to welcome you!
