Local distillery Echo Spirits Distilling Co. (985 W. Sixth Ave.) won some serious material from the recent Berlin International Spirits Competition (BISC). A panel of judges named Echo Spirits Flavored Rum Distillery of the Year in the United States. In addition, the Fifth by Northwest distillery won the following awards: a gold medal for its Echo Spirits Pineapple rum; silver for Echo Spirits Straight Rye Whiskey and Echo Spirits Rum; and bronze for Echo Spirits Geneva. “The judges really loved our pineapple rum. Not only did it win a gold medal, but it earned us the honor of being named the best flavored rum distillery in the United States, even though we only made one entry in the category” , Chief Distiller Nikhil Sharoff said in a press release. “Our pineapple rum was one of our hardest spirits to get, but it was worth it.”
