Burrito Mariachi with its drive-thru opens next week in Patchogue.
Sam Liu, the owner of the new Burrito Mariachi in Patchogue and the founder of the franchise, will host a big opening celebration Monday at noon with a complementary lunch for friends, family and members of the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce.
Then, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., the Mexican restaurant at 272 East Main Street, the site of the former Checkers, will offer half-price meals to all its customers who come to enjoy freshly prepared Mexican cuisine.
The family-run restaurant has a range of options from tacos to quesadillas and nachos to enchiladas, which guests can customize. The menu will also include burritos and burrito bowls, including Buffalo Jack Chicken Burrito, Lazy Mike with Chicken or Steak, and Queen Bee Shrimp Burrito.
Liu opened his first Burrito Mariachi in Wantagh in 2011. He has since sold this location, while also opening and operating locations in Massapequa and Farmingdale. Patchogue is the third it will own and the first to boast of having a drive-thru, which will only serve pre-set options to make sure it works quickly.
The new grill will be open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Liu said he plans to keep the drive-thru open until 1 a.m.
Working in the restaurant industry since the age of 15, Liu, now 38, decided that Mexican cuisine was a great option for this stage of his career.
âIt’s a really good choice, a Mexican grill,â Liu said. “What we want to bring to our community is fresh, healthy food at a reasonable price for quality food.”
