A collection of tasty recipes

The creative minds behind The Monica have revealed the following renderings and plan to open the new spot in early 2022 to coincide with El Charro Café’s 100th anniversary.

The final concept will be a “Culinary Celebration of Tucson with a Renewed Approach to Food”. They are stocking the recipes of several chefs involved in the El Charro family, as well as a host of others who are known for their scratchy cuisine and family recipes. However, unlike its other restaurants in town, The Monica will not be Mexican-centric cuisine.

Chef Carlotta Flores refers to the new concept as a “collection of family recipes around our table and the tables of our community, organized and co-developed by our incredible team of chefs and gourmet professionals”.

Family traditions – a century in the making

The name behind The Monica is a tribute to Monique Flin, the founder of Tucson’s oldest family of restaurants. It will be Tucson’s first buffet and pantry-style kitchen that aims to bring back a comfortable, classic, and personalized dining style.

In addition, the Monica will be open for mornings, lunch, dinner, late evenings and happy hour.

Chef Danny Perez, formerly of The JW Marriott and La Paloma, will be in charge of the kitchen and operations of the Monica, and a team of culinary designers such as chef Carlotta Flores, Chief Gary Hickey, Don Guerra of Barrio bread, and others will contribute.

They will all have their say in the kitchen with the others from Si Charro! family of restaurants – offering their ‘family favorite recipes and creating a diverse collection of flavors and options’.

Fun, fun, fun in the outdoors and in the sun

Since the restaurant is located on the first floor of the Hexagon building, it will have one of the largest – if not the largest – open-air patios in downtown Tucson. The space is sandwiched between two buildings, so it should provide plenty of shade during scorching summers.
